Verification Guide
The Skincare Bureau™ is an independent verification body focused on ingredient transparency in skincare. We review documentation—including ingredient records, sourcing information, and label disclosures—to confirm that what brands communicate publicly is supported behind the label.
Verification means that ingredient claims are supported by documentation and accurately represented across product labeling and marketing.
We review ingredient-based claims such as organic, cold-pressed, non-GMO, sustainably sourced, and other sourcing or processing-related claims.
Our approach is documentation-first. Rather than relying primarily on testing or certifications, we focus on the records that explain how a product is sourced, formulated, and represented. We prioritize accessibility, offering a clear process and practical support so brands of all sizes can participate.
We review supplier documentation (such as COAs and specifications), IFRA statements (for fragrance or essential oils), and any relevant certifications, along with product labeling and claim representation to ensure ingredient claims are supported.
Yes. All submissions are handled in accordance with confidentiality and NDA terms.
The annual licensing fee is $199 per product, beginning one year from the date of verification.
If a product cannot be verified, it means the submitted documentation and attestation do not sufficiently support one or more ingredient claims. Brands will be given an opportunity to provide additional documentation or clarify details. If sufficient support cannot be established, the product will not be approved.
No. The verification fee is non-refundable once review has begun, as it covers the time and resources required to evaluate documentation and claims. Submission does not guarantee approval.
The Verified Directory is a public listing of products that have completed The Skincare Bureau™ verification process. It provides consumers with a place to discover skincare brands that have demonstrated ingredient transparency through documentation.
No. We do not replace regulatory requirements or testing. We complement existing frameworks by focusing on documentation, disclosure, and transparency—areas that often sit outside formal regulation.
Verification is for brands that value clarity and accountability, and for consumers who want a more transparent view of what’s behind the label. Our role is to support both sides through a shared standard.
Most verifications are completed within 7–10 business days once documentation is complete. Timelines may vary if additional information or clarification is required.
The Verified Badge may be used on verified product packaging and the corresponding product page only. It may not be used on a homepage, across an entire brand, or in any way that could misrepresent verification status.
If a verified product’s formula, ingredient sourcing, or labeling changes, you must notify The Skincare Bureau™ and submit updated documentation for review.
Minor updates that do not affect ingredient composition or claims may be reviewed as administrative updates. Material changes that impact the formula, sourcing, or disclosures may require re-verification and an additional review fee.
Verification reflects the documentation on file and must accurately represent the product as sold.
Yes. The Skincare Bureau™ provides clear guidance throughout the verification process. Our role is to support transparency by making the process understandable and navigable—while maintaining consistent standards across all reviews.
We provide guidance on what documentation is needed and how to request it from suppliers. Brands remain responsible for obtaining and submitting records, but support is available to help navigate the process.
